Our group at the University Hospital Erlangen is recruiting a highly motivated PhD candidate.

The project “P13 - Modulation of CRC development and progression by GPR15L-dependent effects on lymphocyte infiltration and the intestinal microbiota” is part of the Collaborative Research Centre TRR 417 “Cellular Communication in the Stroma of Colorectal Cancer: From Pathophysiology to Clinical Translation”, a major German research consortium (Frankfurt - Freiburg - Erlangen). The PhD candidate will investigate the impact of the endogenous peptide GPR15L on the tumor microenvironment in colorectal cancer (in particular with regard to T cell recruitment and with regard to effects on the intestinal microbiome) using state-of-the art in vivo and in vitro models along with human samples.

To this end, the candidate will be trained in the following techniques:

Multi-color flow cytometry

Advanced mouse genetics

State-of-the-art mouse models of colorectal cancer

Analysis of omics data

Organoid culture systems

Standard molecular biology methods

Your Profile:

Completed Master's degree (or equivalent) in immunology, molecular biology, molecular medicine or related disciplines

Strong interest in translational research

Excellent written and spoken English

Structured working style

Team-oriented mindset (you will work in a working group with more than 15 colleagues and collaborate with several groups associated to the TRR417 consortium)

Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques such as IHC, PCR, histology, cell culture or flow cytometry

Experience in working with mice (Felasa B) and basic knowledge of bioinformatics is advantageous
