Laboratory Technician / Laboratory Manager (Laborleiter/in)

The Division of Soft-Tissue Sarcoma at the Hopp Children’s Cancer Center (KiTZ) - a joint institution of the Heidelberg University Hospital and the German Cancer Research Center - is seeking, starting between December 2026 and January 2027, a Laboratory Technician / Laboratory Manager.

Your Tasks

We are a friendly and motivated laboratory with German and international researchers working to understand tumor biology and generate new models to help find treatments for children and adults with sarcoma. The candidate’s tasks will comprise lab management, cell culture, plasmid preps, support in various molecular biology techniques and training of new laboratory members on specifc tasks when required. Occasional mouse work may be required. Routine animal work is covered by a dedicated technician, with the successful candidate only expected to assist during periods of absence or in exceptional circumstances. While the position involves both administrative and laboratory work, there is some flexibility in the balance between these two areas, depending on the successful candidate’s interests. The candidate will work together with other members of the laboratory and will be trained in the various tasks.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate should:

- Be motivated, responsible, and well organised
- Have completed vocational training as a biological laboratory technician or hold a comparable qualification
- Have experience in cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques
- Have basic experience in handling mice, ideally hold a FELASA certificate
- Be willing to train technical trainees and early-career scientists in specific laboratory techniques
- Have a working knowledge of English and German
- Have good communication skills and the ability to document laboratory work accurately
