We invite applications for a position in a new three-year research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) through the funding scheme “Wissenschaftliche Vorprojekte zu Grundlagenfragen der Quantentechnologien und Photonik.”

We are seeking a

Research Engineer or Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)

in the field of Engineering Physics or Materials Science (or a related qualification) for research and development into specialty optical fibres
3D-printing, extrusion, and chemical purification of structured glass preforms made from fused silica
Drawing of microstructured optical fibres, in particular novel hollow-core fibres for applications in high-speed communications, quantum technology, sensor technology, etc.
Publication of the achieved results in scientific journals and at conferences

Experience with working in a cleanroom environment is an advantage, as is experience in fibre optics, handling of process gases, glass processing, and control engineering
A completed Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering Physics, Materials Science, Engineering or a similar discipline
The ability to work independently, a willingness to learn, and a team spirit
Good English skills
The ability to climb stairs in a cleanroom is an essential requirement
We offer you an interesting and varied role in an international environment, as well as a positive working atmosphere within a friendly team. You will have the opportunity for regular further training and receive a comprehensive induction training from experienced and qualified colleagues. The position is part of a three-year research project. Remuneration is based on your qualifications and experience, in accordance with the pay scale set out in the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund). You can expect further benefits, such as a supplementary pension scheme through the Federal and State Pension Fund (VBL) and regular workplace health management initiatives.
