Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the Institute of Theatre Studies (100% TVL13) for an initial period of three years

The Institute of Theatre Studies at Ruhr University Bochum is one of the largest in the German-speaking world. Located in a former industrial region undergoing structural change, the Institute is characterised by close cooperation with neighbouring theatres and institutions, as well as intensive research activity. Its research and teaching cover the entire spectrum of the performing arts.

The successful candidate (m/f/x) will be required to deliver courses focusing on theatre history within the BA and MA programmes in ‘Theatre Studies and Performance Studies’, conduct examinations and participate in the Institute’s self-governance. There is also the opportunity for further academic qualification. The successful candidate (m/f/x) will have extensive knowledge of theatre studies, particularly theatre and cultural history. Knowledge of performance studies would also be an advantage. Teaching experience is required; international experience is also desirable. Your profile:

Profile (key points):

- Completed PhD in Theatre Studies, Performance Studies or a related subject
- Teaching experience
- A research focus on historical theatre forms and performative practices from the perspective of contemporary theoretical development. Expertise in historiographical methods, particularly with regard to research into colonial history, gender roles and the political and social function of theatre, is desirable. Approaches that critically examine Eurocentric systems of knowledge and incorporate transcultural perspectives are also desirable.
- Proficiency in German (at least B1 level).
